BKKLIT Translation Prize 2018

BKKLIT 2018 final announcement

We’re thrilled to announce that the BKKLIT TRANSLATION PRIZE 2018, open to emerging translators of contemporary Thai fiction and poetry, is now accepting entries. The Prize will have two categories as follows:

FICTION

1st Prize 6,000 ฿ and publication in BKKLIT 01

2nd Prize 2,500 ฿ and publication in BKKLIT 01

3rd Prize 1,500 ฿ 

 

POETRY

1st Prize 6,000 ฿ and publication in BKKLIT 01

2nd Prize 2,500 ฿ and publication in BKKLIT 01

3rd Prize 1,500 ฿

The original work must have been written in the past 20 years and must not be more than 4,000 words for fiction or more than 50 lines for poetry. 

 

ENTRY

Submit a translated short story of up to 4,000 words or a poem of under 50 lines.

The translation must be of a complete short story or a complete poem. Extracts from longer works will be disqualified.

The original short story or poem must have been written in the past 20 years.

All entries must be translated into English from Thai.

Preference will be given to translators who have not published a book-length translation of fiction or poetry.   

The deadline is 31 August 2018 for each category.

 

GUIDELINES

Please submit your translation to thebangkokliteraryreview@gmail.com.

All text must be Helvetica, 12 point.

Fiction must be double-spaced.

Poetry must be single-spaced.

Please provide, in English, the following details about the work translated: title, original author, publication details (if published), the translator or translators, translator biography (50 words), author biography (50 words), and your contact details.

Please send your submission as a Word, PDF or Pages document under the file name [CATEGORY_ORIGINAL AUTHOR_TITLE_TRANSLATOR]

 

ELIGIBILITY

Self-translations are not permitted.

Translations must not have been previously published.

Multiple submissions are not allowed. You can submit either one short story or one poem.

Individuals on the editorial team of BKKLIT are not eligible for entry.

 

WINNING ENTRIES

The judges’ decisions are final.

The shortlist will be announced in November.

The winners will be announced in December.

Winning translations will be published in BKKLIT 01 and on the BKKLIT website at the discretion of the original authors.

Shortlisted translations may be published on the BKKLIT website at the discretion of the original authors.
